Privacy Statement
National Verification Registry (NVR) recognizes that your privacy and the protection of your personal information is important to you. This statement discloses how we use the personal information stored in the National Verification Registry web sites (www.notarypublicbackgroundcheck.com and www.verificationregistry.com) and how we protect it. It does not apply to other online or offline National Verification Registry sites, products or services.

National Verification Registry is a service that allows its users to have their identity and credentials independently verified. The verification process may include a criminal background check. Users consist of members of the general public such as notaries public and individuals wishing to participate in other on-line services that require independent verification of credentials.

NVR'S COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

What Information Is Collected by National Verification Registry

When you apply for certification through an NVR web site, such as www.notarypublicbackgroundcheck.com, you will be asked to provide certain personal information that may be stored in NVR electronic systems or physical facilities. That information may include the following:
  1. Your legal name and any aliases you have used
  2. Your date of birth
  3. Your place of birth
  4. Your Social Security Number
  5. Your current phone number
  6. Your e-mail address
  7. Your driver license or other official identification information
  8. Information on any relevant credentials you hold
  9. Your personal address history
  10. Your work history
NVR'S USE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Your personal information will be used to verify your identity, credentials and perform any background checks required of your certification level. Your information will not be sold, rented or shared except in accordance with the General Disclosure section below or as necessary to perform the services you have specifically requested. In particular:
  • Your information may be shared with a professional background investigation bureau for the purpose of investigating your criminal background

  • Your name, city and state will be displayed at a National Verification Registry web site if certification is granted
National Verification Registry will not use or share your personal information in a manner that differs from what is described in this Privacy Statement without your prior consent.

National Verification Registry may send you e-mail about periodic service or recommended security updates related to the National Verification Registry service. These periodic e-mails are considered essential to the provision of the service you have requested. You cannot unsubscribe from these mailings. An example would be a notification telling you that your certification is near expiration and that your name will be removed from the registry database unless certification is renewed.

NVR'S GENERAL DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

National Verification Registry occasionally hires other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, such as the mailing of product-related notices. NVR will only provide these companies with those pieces of your personal information needed to deliver the services - such as your name and mailing address - and the companies and their employees are prohibited from using that personal information for any other purpose.

National Verification Registry may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to:
  1. Conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process served on National Verification Registry
  2. Protect and defend the rights or property of National Verification Registry, or National Verification Registry participating sites or services
  3. Act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the National Verification Registry Service, or the public
REMOVING YOUR NATIONAL VERIFICATION REGISTRY ENTRY

If certification is granted and you later decide that you no longer wish to have your name and certification displayed at the National Verification Registry, you may request that it be taken down using the Contact Us page. You should reference your original Order Number and Security Code.

SECURITY AND STORAGE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Electronic Information
Your National Verification Registry information is stored on secure NVR servers located in controlled facilities. To access your information electronically, where available, you must type the correct Security Code into our web site. It is your responsibility to ensure the security of your NVR Security Code and not to share this information. If you choose to reveal your Security Code to a third-party, National Verification Registry is unable to guarantee the security of your NVR-stored information.

Whenever it is necessary to electronically transmit your information, NVR will use industry-standard security technologies to encrypt it for secure transmission.

Personal information collected by National Verification Registry will be stored and processed in the United States only.

Paper-based Information
Where your personal information exists in a paper format, it will be stored in a secure facility within a secure vault or lock-box during the retention period. At the end of the retention period, it will be cross-shredded and tendered to a document destruction company. Your information will be handled in accordance with GLBA Safeguard Rules and the FTC Disposal Rule.

USE OF COOKIES

A cookie is a very small text file that a Web site saves to your computer's hard disk to store information that you provide about yourself or to store your preferences. Any use of cookies by National Verification Registry is for the express purpose of managing session information and maintaining data security. We do not allow third-party cookies nor do we use cookies to track your activity.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY STATEMENT

National Verification Registry will occasionally update this Privacy Statement. When we do, we will also revise the "last updated" date at the bottom of the Privacy Statement. National Verification Registry will obtain your consent for any updates to this Privacy Statement that expand the sharing or use of your personal information in ways not disclosed in this Privacy Statement.
